The Head of Volyn Regional Council, member of the presidium of the UKROP party political council Ihor Palytsya doesn’t have presidential ambitions and believes that the position of the state’s leader in Ukraine should be eliminated or significantly limited in powers so that the country would not depend on the will of one person.

“I believe that this position will bring no good for our country. We can see it with the results of the Minsk agreements and other international agreements, when an authoritarian person can make decisions by himself without reporting back to anyone, while the Verkhovna Rada does not understand anything. So the President’s power should be either significantly limited, as it is in Germany or Israel, or this position should be eliminated so that the Parliament, which is responsible to every citizen, could make decision on the Prime Minister, who would rule the country. Then no one will fight for early elections,” said Ihor Palytsya on the air of one of Volyn TV channels on October 7.

The politician is confident that even if the President’s office is maintained, the role of the Parliament in governing the country should prevail.

“Ukraine should have a parliamentary-presidential structure of government. But the parliamentary – with bold capital letters, unlike today, when the President influences appointments at the Cabinet of Ministers. No matter whether it is Petro Oleksiyovych or anyone else, we should not depend on one person,” added Ihor Palytsya.
