The international partners reacted with caution to a staged murder of journalist Arkadiy Babchenko, since the world does not trust the Ukrainian law-enforcement system. This was stated by the member of the UKROP political council, chairman of the board of “Maidan of Foreign Affairs” Fund Bohdan Yaremenko in the program “Right to Rule” on the air of “1+1” TV channel.
He has noted that the Ukrainian security services were not able to provide evidence of Russia’s involvement in organizing assassination attempt on Babchenko: “We have no name in Russia, there is no intelligence agency that ordered the murder, and there are no facts that evidence contact. This creates problems for our diplomacy”.
According to him, Ukraine could force Russia to bear responsibility for an attempt on a journalist before the international community if domestic investigators demonstrated uncontested facts of the Kremlin’s involvement. For example, the intelligence services of Great Britain have done this after an attempt to poison the former intelligence officer Sergei Skripal.
“The British began with the facts, each of which was confirmed. We started this case not with the facts, but with staging a murder,” said the UKROP member.
In addition, Ukraine’s Security Service has put the governments of the European countries that have already made statements on the “murder” of a journalist in an awkward position.
“Ukraine is not obliged to fully inform the international partners about a special operation, especially when someone’s life depends on it. However, the ambassadors of three or four countries could have made calls asking their governments not to make statements before Ukraine explains the situation. It would only increase confidence in the Ukrainian law-enforcement system,” added Bohdan Yaremenko.
