Since the Soviet times the Russian propaganda has been trying to discredit Ukrainian patriotism, depicting the fighters for independence as radicals and fascists.

This was stated by the MP from UKROP Oleksandr Shevchenko on the air of “1+1” TV channel in the program “Right to Rule”.

“The Russian TV channels have neutralized the Ukrainian patriotism, they showed that Ukrainians, fighting for their independence, their freedom and their land, were God knows who, fascists,” said the UKROP member.

The parliamentarian has noted that the Ukrainian people is composed of many different nationalities and cultures, which combine mutual respect and desire to live peacefully on their own land.

“The Ukrainian people unite many people who respect the Ukrainian language, territorial integrity and each other. Without mutual respect, nothing will be possible,” said Oleksandr Shevchenko.

According to the MP, recently in Ukraine the radicalization of society is talked about a lot. However, it often happens that conflicts around nationalist organizations are created artificially.

“It seems that sometimes a problem should be created to destabilize the situation and to ensure somebody’s victory in the next election, and then, with the help of law enforcement officers, to show that the authorities can cope with it,” said Oleksandr Shevchenko.
