In the fifth year of war, the state should finally establish at the official level the status of servicemen who have disappeared while performing their duties in the area of the anti-terrorist operation. This was stated in the interview to the Internet resource “Livyi Bereh” by the ATO veteran, member of the UKROP political council Yevhen Terekhov.
“The adoption of the law on missing persons is necessary. In order to establish the status of themselves, their families that today do not receive any payments from the state. Even in case of a loss of breadwinner,” said the UKROP member.
According to him, now the issue of monetary compensation to families of missing persons is solved only at the local level. For its part, UKROP in local councils initiates decisions to allocate funds from local budgets. For example, in Kryvyi Rih in this way the families of fighters received 100 thousand hryvnias of aid, and in Pavlohrad – 50 thousand hryvnias.
The representatives of the “Ukrainian Association of Patriots” also initiated a decision to allocate 100 thousand hryvnias to the families of missing military in Lutsk, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv.
“At the level of UKROP we are trying to solve this issue at least locally. But this is clearly not enough, there should be the state’s role,” emphasized Yevhen Terekhov.
The UKROP member has noted that there is also a lack of funding for the maintenance of rehabilitation centers for former military. Today, such institutions are funded mainly by volunteers. The lack of proper psychological assistance and rehab programs often results in serious health disorders of former combatants after returning from the ATO.
“These are the consequences of the war – we will feel its echo for years. Not everyone was able to cope with it. Our task is to introduce training and support programs,” said the representative of the “Ukrainian Association of Patriots”.
