The United States’ decision to provide Javelin antitank missile systems to Ukraine can give the green light to the supply of weapons from NATO countries. This was stated on the air of ZIK TV channel by the chairman of the board of “Maidan of Foreign Affairs” Fund, head of Kyiv city organization of UKROP Bohdan Yaremenko.
“This precedent is important in terms of the other countries willing to provide Ukraine with weapons. What has happened (the decision of the United States to provide Ukraine with Javelin anti-tank missile systems – Ed.) is also important for the US Allies in Europe. Some European states can afford to take the lead from the US policy on armament of Ukraine, weapons sale and supply to us,” said the UKROP member.
He has also noted that the decision to provide Javelins has created a precedent for Washington itself as well. After that, it can be expected that the United States will more easily decide on supplies of other types of weapons.
According to Bohdan Yaremenko, American policy is clearly aimed at supporting Ukraine in a conflict with Russia: “The United States of America, and not only them, the United Kingdom and other states are beginning to blame personally Vladimir Putin. Previously it was about Russia, Russian foreign policy. Now a guilty is called.”
Despite this, it is too early to talk about the introduction of a peacekeeping mission to Donbas, because such a decision has not yet been taken. According to the representative of UKROP, the peacekeeping contingent in the east will lead to a frozen conflict rather than to its solution.
