Changes to the law on citizenship proposed by the President Poroshenko do not take into account the opinion of the Crimeans. This was stated in the program “National Security Issues” on the air of Chornomorska TV and Radio Company by Erfan Kudusov, the head of the Crimean organization of UKROP.

According to him, the current version of the draft law No. 8297 “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Ukraine’s Citizenship” regarding the improvement of certain provisions” was not agreed with the representatives of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, or at least with the MPs from the Crimea.

“This bill has caused a storm in the Crimea, which now should be calmed down. In this form, the document cannot be adopted. It should be canceled or refined,” said Erfan Kudusov.

The UKROP member has noted that most often the actions of the authorities only complicate the lives of citizens who have to live in the occupied territories. According to the activist, the reason lies in the fact that the absolute majority of political parties in Ukraine do not have a plan for their liberation and return. In the programs of both the pro-government and the opposition political forces there is no position on collaboration or creation of the Crimean Tatar national territorial autonomy.

“Today’s authorities cannot solve such issues. We received a state apparatus that acts against its own people, especially the people who are under occupation. Without concerted action, we will not be able to break this system,” said the head of the Crimean UKROP.

The draft law No. 8297 “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Ukraine’s Citizenship” regarding the improvement of certain provisions” proposes the introduction of new rules for the acquisition and loss of citizenship. The reason for the loss of citizenship can be, for example, the entrance in any public-legal agreements under the occupation authorities. Thus, the residents of the annexed Crimea, who are automatically put in the official registers of the Russian Federation at the time of registration of any documents at the place of residence, registration of vehicles, purchase or sale of housing, etc., are in the risk zone.
