The representatives of UKROP are initiating strengthening financial and economic sanctions against the Russian Federation. The MPs Taras Batenko, Oleksandr Dubinin, Iryna Konstankevych, Valentyn Didych, Vitaliy Kupriy, Oleksandr Shevchenko and Viktor Shevchenko prepared the corresponding draft law No. 8117 “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Sanctions” Preventing Foreign Military Aggression against Ukraine”.
The document provides for an unconditional prohibition on the business of an aggressor country in Ukraine. Restrictions are applied to public and private companies that were established and registered in the Russian Federation. Thus, sanctions can be applied, for example, to the Russian banks, retail networks, gas stations, which are still operating in Ukraine. Sanctions should also be imposed on the Russian businessmen and persons associated with them, who have joint business or projects.
“The purpose of the proposed changes is not only in the deepest accession of Ukraine to the world sanctions against the aggressor country – Russia, but, above all, in an effort to lead this movement,” explained UKROP.
The explanatory note to the bill also states that its purpose is to increase financial and economic pressure on the richest Russians and their environment. Such actions should force a neighboring country to abandon its aggressive plans about Ukraine.
“We expect that as a result of strengthened sanctions, Russia will not be able to fulfill its social obligations towards its own citizens. As a result, pressure inside the country will force the Russian president to leave office or change the aggressive policy towards Ukraine,” noted the UKROP members.
