The Ukrainian authorities are neglecting interests of their own people in negotiations with the International Monetary Fund. This was stated on the air of Pryamyi TV channel by the head of UKROP, MP Taras Batenko.
“The authorities are not sufficiently defending Ukraine’s position in negotiations with the IMF, including the issue of gas price. It seems that the leadership of the country does not want to find a compromise with its own people,” said the MP.
Taras Batenko believes that rise in the price of gas for the population at the request of creditors may lead to real social and political collapse in the country. The incomes of the Ukrainians are the lowest in Europe, so our citizens cannot afford to pay tariffs at the same level as the European consumers.
“In favor of whom is the rise in price of gas being discussed – the IMF, the Ukrainian people or the oligarchs?” inquired Taras Batenko and added that if this is done for the IMF, the Ukrainian authorities should continue to cooperate with it, first of all, in creation of an Anti-Corruption Court. The representatives of the IMF and the European Union have repeatedly stated this. A key condition – the Anti-Corruption Court should become truly independent of all branches of government.
“Without preserving the principle of independence, this will be another concession to the President who does not want to give up his power until the next election,” stressed Taras Batenko.
