The factions of the parliamentary coalition are not interested in early elections because of their low ratings. Therefore, the re-election of the Verkhovna Rada may take place only under pressure from the street. This was stated by the head of UKROP, MP Taras Batenko on the air of “112 Ukraine” TV channel.

“I do not believe in collapse of this parliament because of the withdrawal of one of the factions from coalition. The only way to hold early elections is when the street will speak and force the president to act to cool down, to calm the society,” noted Taras Batenko.

According to him, there is still very little time left for early elections. The campaign should start no later than in May, as parliament can be dissolved at least six months before the presidential election.

However, the head of state is not interested in restart of the legislative body, since now he can pass any necessary document through the current Rada.

“I am convinced that after a bit more than a year we will have a new president, and in a year and a half we will get a new configuration in parliament. New political forces will come to the legislative body, in particular those who are now receiving the greatest support in the elections in the UTC,” added the UKROP member.

The MP called absurd the situation, when factions of the so-called coalition cannot agree on urgent issues. Parliament for more than six months has not even decided on dismissal and appointment of the head of the National Bank. But still the reelection of the Verkhovna Rada should take place only after amending the electoral legislation.

In the opinion of Taras Batenko, a proportional system with open lists will reduce the authorities’ ability to use administrative resource and influence election results.
