The so-called Minsk agreements should be reviewed sooner or later, because it is clear to everyone that Russia is not going to implement them. This was stated by the Head of Kyiv city organization of UKROP, Chairman of the Board of “Maidan of Foreign Affairs” Fund Bohdan Yaremenko in the comment to the website “24”.
“If something does not work, it will be changed sooner or later. Obviously, Russia is not going to implement the agreements,” he said.
The UKROP member has noted that the process of interpretation and clarification of the Minsk agreements began almost immediately after the signing. The fierce discussion is continuing on the order of execution of the provisions of the “Minsk-2” – first local elections or security in the occupied territories.
At the same time, Russia deliberately does not fulfill two first and simplest points – the ceasefire and the withdrawal of heavy weapons. For its part, Ukraine will not be able to fulfill the political part of the agreements, in particular, due to the lack of internal political consensus.
“After some time either the Chief Commander and the Supreme Diplomat will be changed in Ukraine, or some other circumstances will arise, and the agreements will be reviewed. Then the Minsk agreements will pass into oblivion,” emphasized Bohdan Yaremenko.
According to him, today it is clear that Russia needs a conflict in Donbas in its current form.
“Only when the Kremlin understands that they can no longer carry on this war, Russia can reconsider its position. And Ukraine needs to be ready to fight,” stressed the representative of UKROP.
The Minsk agreements (“Minsk-2”) were agreed on February 12, 2015 by leaders of Germany, France, Ukraine and Russia within the “Normandy Four” format. The document provides for some measures to resolve the conflict in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. During three years after the agreements had been approved and signed by the representatives of the special contact group, none of the provisions was fully implemented.
