The “Ukrainian Association of Patriots” is the first among political parties in Ukraine to launch a public procedure of presidential primaries. The candidate for the post of the head of state from UKROP will be chosen after the internal party voting. This was announced today at a press conference following the results of the meeting of the political council, said its chairman, MP Taras Batenko.
Besides at the meeting the decision to launch the procedure of the election of the party head was also made. Political party leader will be elected during the 14th Party Congress on March 3. The provision on the election of the presidential candidate from UKROP will be approved at the same time.
The “Ukrainian Association of Patriots” as a mature political party, being in opposition to power, will make maximum use of the procedure of primaries. We demand profound changes in the country and in the system of power,” said Taras Batenko.
During a month, those willing to compete for the post of the head of state will be able to send their applications for participation in the primaries at the address of the party secretariat.
Registered candidates will have five months to campaign. Voting for them will begin in autumn at the General Meetings or Conferences of the regional, republican in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Kyiv and Sevastopol city organizations of UKROP. As a result of this election, a single candidate for the presidential election from UKROP will be elected and nominated during the party congress in autumn.
“UKROP is taking preparation for these elections seriously. The party will choose the most worthy candidate, who will be supported by all Ukrainians. We will do everything for his victory,” said the member of the UKROP party presidium, the head of Volyn Regional Council Ihor Palytsya.
He has also noted that the UKROP party’s candidate for president should be a person with great support of citizens, who is not included in any anti-ratings. In the opinion of politician, people are already tired of the same faces that have been creating the Ukrainian politics for the last twenty years.
For his part, a deputy from the “Ukrainian Association of Patriots” Oleksandr Shevchenko has stressed: “We have come to change the political system of Ukraine. Those people who have done nothing and have not changed anything during the last 26 years have to go into political retirement.”
