The Ukrainian authorities resort to deception, refusing to engage foreign observers in the process of the creation of the Supreme Anti-corruption Court at the request of the international donors. This was stated on the air of the Espresso TV channel by the head of Kyiv city organization of UKROP, chairman of the board of “Maidan of Foreign Affairs” Fund Bohdan Yaremenko.
“From my point of view, this is a pure deception, the Ukrainian authorities like to practice very much,” said the UKROP member.
The Ukrainian officials are veiledly trying to present the demands of the international donors regarding participation of foreign observers as a compromise with the Constitution. In fact, the Western partners insist only on the participation of foreigners in the selection of candidates, and not in the appointment of judges of the Supreme Anti-corruption Court – and here is a big difference, emphasized Bohdan Yaremenko.
“Observers play an important role, but this does not mean that they appoint judges. It means that they can become the last instance in case of any claims about selection,” he said.
Moreover, the level of the Ukrainians’ wealth also depends on the creation of the Anti-Corruption Court, because corruption directly influences the inflow of investments, economic and financial development.
“This is not the issue that we should be puffed up and say that we will manage without the West. If we could do it, we would have done it already. But obviously we cannot,” added the UKROP member.
According to him, the creation of such a court, notably in a transparent way, can be the best signal for the investors who will invest their money in Ukraine.
