Any discussion about the future of the Crimea without participation of the leaders of the Crimean Tatar people is harmful. This was stated by the chairman of UKROP Advisory and Expert Group Dmytro Simansky on the air of ATR TV channel.

“For me it’s quite obvious that there can be no Ukrainian Crimea without being a homeland of the Crimean Tatars. We cannot decide the fate of the peninsula without understanding what the Crimean Tatars want, either in Ukraine or in international organizations,” said the UKROP member.

Dmytro Simansky has stressed the need for the adoption of amendments to the Constitution, according to which the status of the Crimean Tatar autonomy will be clearly defined. According to the expert, it should have the widest authority in all spheres, except for foreign policy and defense.

“This people should get enough opportunities so that every Crimean Tatar would not have a desire to live not in Ukraine,” added the representative of UKROP.

But now we cannot speak about this, since the Ukrainian authorities cannot even provide legal protection or material assistance to the Crimeans who have escaped from the occupation.

In order to address the most acute problems of the occupied peninsula UKROP was the first among the post-Maidan political forces in Ukraine to create the Crimean party organization. Its representatives raise the issue of the return of the Crimea within Ukraine and at the international level, as well as help the citizens who have been temporarily displaced from the peninsula.
