The authorities are doing everything for the Verkhovna Rada to fail vote on the draft law No. 7163 “On the peculiarities of state policy on ensuring Ukraine’s state sovereignty over temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions”. Such an opinion was expressed by the head of the UKROP political council, MP Taras Batenko on the air of the “Pryamyi” TV channel.

“The authorities are doing everything to ensure that this bill wouldn’t be adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,” said the parliamentarian.

According to Taras Batenko, the document was put on the agenda on the last plenary week of parliament, with awareness of the possibility of deputies’ absence for voting.

The MP suggests that from the very beginning the authorities had no intention of initiating a law on reintegration. Instead, it was taken to parliament in order to pass the bill No. 2167-VIII “On establishing the prerequisites for a peaceful settlement of the situation in some districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions”, which extends the special status of the occupied territories for another year.

“The law on extension of the special status of temporarily occupied territories, which was adopted, was a basic one,” said Taras Batenko.

He called on the deputies to support the bill on reintegration, taking into account UKROP’s amendments on rupture in diplomatic relations with Russia: “This is a fundamental issue. We cannot have any relations with the aggressor country. They had to be cut off immediately after the occupation of the Crimea”.

In addition, the MP has stressed the need to take into account UKROP’s amendments, which regulate the status of the residents of the occupied Crimea at the same level as of the citizens living in uncontrolled districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

At the same time, the reference to the Minsk agreements, according to which Ukraine has to surrender in the war with the Russian Federation, should be excluded from the document.

The representative of UKROP has reminded that in case of adoption of the bill Russia will be finally recognized as an aggressor country. Also, the document will define the status of the united command, which is now actually being taken on by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
