The “Ukrainian Association of Patriots – UKROP” calls on the state leadership to stop attack on anti-corruption bodies and fighters against corruption. This was stated at a press briefing in the Verkhovna Rada by the chairman of the party’s political council, MP Taras Batenko.

“We demand that the authorities stop destroying the independent anti-corruption bodies and putting pressure on anti-corruption officials. This crazy practice may ruin the country and leave it alone face to face with the Russian Federation, without any support of the allies among the Western democratic countries,” stressed the MP.

He drew attention to the draft law No. 7362 “On Amendments to Some Laws of Ukraine on Provision of Parliamentary Control”, prepared by representatives of coalition. The document authorizes the Parliament to freely dismiss heads of anti-corruption bodies, in particular of the NABU. According to the representative of UKROP, this is a very serious slap in the face of the Ukrainian democracy on the part of the current authorities.

Taras Batenko has noted that the draft law not only puts in question the existence of independent anti-corruption institutions, but also launches a strike to Ukraine in the international arena.

“During the war, UKROP considers unacceptable damaging the international image and reputation of the country in the eyes of our major political partners such as the USA and the EU,” stressed the chairman of the political council.

He has added that the party representatives had already met with the ambassadors of the European Union and Canada and told them about all the possible risks for the future existence of the newly formed bodies.

At the same time, Taras Batenko has emphasized that if the authorities do not stop putting pressure on anti-corruption activists, UKROP will call on its supporters and everyone who cares for a mass protest.
