Under the guise of fighting against the traffic offenders, pro-governmental deputies want to destroy democracy on Ukrainian highways. A draft law No. 7286 “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Increasing Liability for Separate Offenses in Road Safety” was created for this end. This was written by the UKROP member, co-founder of the public association “Affordable Car” Mykhailo Katruk on his Facebook page.

“Another example of a standard practice of those in power, when in a right and timely law, with many good changes, they are trying to push the beginning of the end of democracy,” he stressed.

According to the activist, the pro-government bill stipulates the reduction in drivers’ rights. For example, it will allow the police to check motorists’ state of alcohol intoxication without the involvement of witnesses and video recording.

In addition, according to the initiative, the police will be able to stop the car even on suspicion that the driver drank alcohol. As it is known, such measures were practiced during the days of the former State Automobile Inspectorate.

Another norm of the bill, if approved, will allow law enforcement officers to require drivers to open a trunk, bonnet, armrest, glove compartment and other departments for inspection.

Also, the representative of UKROP has paid attention to the “whole point” of the document. In particular, it foresees the registration of cars with foreign numbers within 10 days after crossing the Ukrainian border, if such a vehicle will stay in Ukraine for 90 or more days.

“It is now clear why Yaroslav Dubnevych has no time for the consideration of people’s bills No. 5561 and 5562 (UKROP’s bills on import into Ukraine’s customs territory and registration of vehicles and on amendments to the Tax Code regarding the formation of a civilized market of used cars – Ed.). All this time he was busy with preparing the bill taking inspiration from YouTube videos about Russian police, kings and gods of roads,” summed up Mykhailo Katruk.
