Ukraine celebrates the fourth anniversary of Maidan under conditions of counterrevolution and preservation of the old system under the leadership of the government and the president. This opinion was expressed by the head of the UKROP political council, MP Taras Batenko on the air of ZIK TV channel.

“Today we have the anniversary of two revolutions in Ukraine, none of which has been brought to an end. The authorities had to change values and approaches. Instead, we are witnessing a counter-revolution, which is unfortunately led by the executive branch headed by the president,” said Taras Batenko.

According to the MP, all achievements of Maidan, democratic values and civil liberties are now being rollbacked in the country. In Ukraine, the promised reforms have not been carried out, and corruption has absorbed all areas of the state’s vital functions. This is because the current government relies on a system of values inherited from its predecessors.

“We have got the new authorities, but the system has not been changed. Therefore, people continue rallying on maidans,” said the parliamentarian.

At the same time he has stressed that the Verkhovna Rada has become a kind of a hostage to Bankova, since most decisions of the legislative body are adopted through putting pressure or bribing deputies.

According to the representative of UKROP, it is possible to reverse the situation first of all due to a change in the electoral system, which will be used in the next parliamentary elections. Open proportional lists will deprive oligarchs of the opportunity to buy seats in power, as it has been happening over the past twenty-five years.

“The authorities are most afraid of changing the rules of the game, which sets the electoral system or the Electoral Code,” summed up Taras Batenko.
