Official recognition of the Russian Federation as an aggressor country should also include the rupture of diplomatic relations with our northern neighbor. This was stated by the MP from UKROP Iryna Konstankevych on the air of ZIK TV channel.
According to her, the corresponding amendment that was made by the representatives of UKROP should be taken into account while consideration of the draft law No. 7163 “On the peculiarities of the state policy on ensuring the state sovereignty of Ukraine over temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions” in the second reading.
“If we recognize Russia as an aggressor country by this bill, then we have to break off diplomatic relations with it,” stressed the parliamentarian.
The representative of UKROP has noted that there is no precedent in world history when countries continued diplomatic relations during an armed conflict.
Iryna Konstankevych has also emphasized that, according to sociological surveys, the majority of Ukrainian citizens support the rupture of diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation. However, the authorities resort to half-measures, when they recognize Russia as an aggressor in word and continues an active trade in practice.
“A patriotic position requires us to be categorical and consistent. Therefore, we are against any trade with the aggressor and the presence of Russian financial equities in Ukraine,” said the MP.
According to her, the bill on the reintegration of Donbas should also formally determine the date of the beginning of armed aggression against Ukraine and foresee mechanisms for the return of Crimea at the same level as the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
