Strengthening the positions of the Ukrainian parliament together with weakening of the presidential power can save Ukraine from dictatorship. This was stated by the MP from UKROP Vitaliy Kupriy on air of NewsOne TV Channel.
“Now it is necessary to strengthen the parliament and weaken the presidential branch of power which has proved only to cover corruption and rule law-enforcement bodies and courts in a manual mode,” said Vitaliy Kupriy.
In the opinion of the politician, recent notable cases against the MP were opened not for guilty verdicts, but for the purpose to turn the parliament into a puppet body that would vote for any bill.
Vitaliy Kupriy has noted that under conditions of insufficient democracy, abolition of parliamentary immunity can only worsen the situation. Instead, the Verkhovna Rada would have to ensure the legal mechanism of the presidential impeachment, which should be enshrined in the Constitution of Ukraine.
“We need to have a strong parliament and the opportunity to re-elect a strong prime minister,” added the UKROP member.
