The representatives of UKROP will support the demands of some political parties and organizations on abolition of parliamentary immunity if the Verkhovna Rada adopts a law on the presidential impeachment at the same time. This was stated by the Head of UKROP political council, MP Taras Batenko on the air of ZIK TV channel.

“If we are talking about the abolition of parliamentary immunity, along with this there should be a law on the presidential impeachment,” remarked Taras Batenko.

According to the parliamentarian, the abolition of parliamentary immunity will give free rein to the authorities, which instead of punishing the real corrupt want to put all political opponents in jail. In the opinion of the chairman of the UKROP political council, today the demand to cancel immunity may lead to authoritarianism in a country, which is still on the brink of transition to a dictatorship.

“Today, Ukraine is actually on the brink of dictatorship. When the authorities do not have an honest dialogue with society, initiatives for a new protest on Maidan appear, as outraged citizens are no longer able to keep down,” said the MP.

Taras Batenko has also noticed that the case of the last Maidan was not brought to an end. This is evidenced by mass protests, including those that will take place under the Verkhovna Rada on October 17 in support of political reform.

At the same time, the MP has emphasized that the issue of the initiators of this action is not the first priority for the authorities. In his conviction, people worry about completely different things. For example, among the problems there is no issue of Donbas.

“There is no solution to the problem of east on the agenda of the action. There is no question about what to do with electoral law. There is a question that everything needs to be changed, but what to do with the CEC – it should also be changed,” added the UKROP member.
