After being vaccinated with an Indian DPT vaccine, children in Volyn, Poltava and Vinnytsya regions got into the hospital. This was stated by the MP from UKROP Iryna Konstankevych in her deputy’s inquiry to the Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko and the acting Minister of Health Ulyana Suprun.
The MP has stressed that, according to the doctors, children vaccinated with an Indian vaccine have at least 17 times higher number of complications than the permissible norm, and in 19% there are local reactions.
“As I have learnt in October 2016 an Indian DPT vaccine, which protects against diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough, began to be imported to Ukraine. This drug should solve the problems of parents, because for a long time there was no vaccine at all. However, after vaccination, children complain about numbness of the limbs,” said Iryna Konstankevych, adding that the presence of such reactions is confirmed by the official data.
According to her, children from the age of 2 months to 5 years and 29 days are to receive four vaccinations. This year the UN Children’s Fund UNICEF has re-purchased this vaccine from the Indian manufacturer “Serum Institute of India PVT LTD” and provided Ukraine with humanitarian assistance.
The representative of UKROP stresses that due to complications after the DPT, many parents generally refuse vaccination, which can provoke an outbreak of diseases among children under the age of 5.
In this regard, Iryna Konstankevych requires that the Prosecutor General and the Ministry of Health verify the procurement procedure of the vaccine, and the spending of funds provided from the state budget for ensuring the health care system with these preventive remedies. She also insists on bringing to responsibility the officials whose negligence caused the situation in which the citizens of Ukraine turned out to be.
