While the Ukrainian authorities are waiting for the Venice Commission’s conclusions on the new Law “On Education”, they’d better discuss it with its citizens, and not with other states. This opinion was expressed by the Head of Kyiv city organization of UKROP, Chairman of the Board of “Maidan of Foreign Affairs” Fund Bohdan Yaremenko in the program “Right to Rule” on the air of “1+1” TV channel.
While Ukraine is expecting the decision of the Venice Commission regarding the law, we have nothing to discuss with other countries. But there is something to talk about with our citizens,” said the diplomat.
He has also noted that the neighboring countries responded differently to the law on education. While Romania is ready to cooperate with its Ukrainian counterparts, Hungary demonstrates unacceptable behavior, provoking a scandal. Moreover, the ambassadors of this country do not even hear the arguments of the Ukrainian side.
At the same time, Hungary threatens our state with curtailment of cooperation projects, most of which, among other things, concern the support of the Hungarian national minority.
In this regard, Bohdan Yaremenko called on the Ukrainian governmental officials to respect themselves and to pause in discussions about the law with a neighboring country. Instead, the authorities should pay more attention to patriotic organizations and parties, as well as to involve the Ukrainian opposition in discussing identity issues.
