UKROP calls on the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy to immediately submit for consideration in the session hall the draft law No. 6774 “On Amendments to the Budget Code of Ukraine on the Use of a Military Tax on Improvement of Ukraine’s Defense Capacity”. This was stated during a press briefing in Parliament by the member of the party political council, MP Oleksandr Dubinin.
“We demand that the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada immediately submit this bill for consideration before the discussion of the draft law on the state budget for 2018 starts, as it involves changes to the budget,” stressed Oleksandr Dubinin.
According to the MP, the bill, registered by the parliamentarians from UKROP, proposes to direct all funds got from the military taxes exclusively to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to official answers of the State fiscal service, the Accounting Chamber and the Ministry of Finance to Oleksandr Dubinin’s inquiries, 11.5 billion UAH of military taxes have come to the general fund of the state budget during the last year.
The representative of UKROP has noted that using the military taxes paid by the Ukrainian citizens in 2016, the Armed Forces could purchase at least 12 American F-16 fighting falcons, more than a hundred Ukrainian “Oplot” tanks or more than 14,000 two-room apartments in Kyiv for the military.
“Instead, these funds could be directed in manual mode for anything – from procurement of cars for officials to repair of administrative buildings. This is unacceptable,” emphasized Oleksandr Dubinin.
