Due to the fact that there is still no candidate from the ruling majority for the post of Lutsk Mayor, the elections in Volyn regional center are being deliberately blocked. This was stated at a press briefing in the Verkhovna Rada by the MPs from UKROP Taras Batenko, Vitaliy Kupriy, Iryna Konstankevych and MP from the People’s Front Ihor Guz.

As it is known, the MPs have repeatedly appealed to the Verkhovna Rada with the demand to bring to consideration the issue on calling the extraordinary elections of Lutsk Mayor. Before the summer parliamentary holidays, it was even included in the agenda. Then it was proposed to schedule the elections for September 24 this year. However, parliamentarians did not have enough votes to consider the draft resolution on calling the extraordinary local elections. The decision was put twice to the vote, but it has remained unsupported.

“Parliament deliberately delays and blocks calling of early elections of Lutsk Mayor in favor of one well-known political faction. This situation has been lasting for more than six months. We do not see politics in solution of this issue. There are economic tasks that should be inevitably solved for the benefit of Lutsk community. And we are interested that the residents of Volyn regional center could elect their Mayor as soon as possible,” said Taras Batenko.

Iryna Konstankevych together with Ihor Guz have submitted to Parliament a proposal on calling of the elections of Lutsk Mayor in December 2017. “As a majoritarian deputy, as a native of Volyn, I call on all political forces in the Verkhovna Rada and all factions, to support our proposal and demand from the parliamentary leadership to include this issue in the agenda,” said Ihor Guz.

“I believe that by the end of this year we will manage to end the epic with the mayoral election and propose to solve the problem of the absence of mayor in Volyn regional center by democratic means,” said Taras Batenko.

It should be added that the Head of Volyn Regional Council, member of the UKROP party presidium Ihor Palytsya have recently stated on the air of “Avers” TV channel that the Presidential Administration will block the elections of mayor in Lutsk until the city council secretary is not changed.

It is to be reminded that Lutsk Mayor Mykola Romanyuk passed away on February 3 this year.
