On September 16, in Lviv, a famous writer, the UKROP member Vasyl Shklyar presented his new novel “Troscha”. The event took place within the framework of the annual Publishers’ Forum that is held on September 13-17.
In his novel the author describes the events of 1947 – the time when the Ukrainian Insurgent Army no longer conducted an open armed struggle and went back into hiding. The events of the novel are moving around the UPA soldier, who cannot forget the memories of the war.
“This book is written to show the world that the Ukrainians have not resigned themselves to the regime and continue to struggle as before. And although for the protagonist, the UPA warrior, the war has already passed, the struggle has not been forgotten. Battles and interrogations are continuing before his eyes, he sees the faces of different people, but the traitor’s face does not appear,” said Vasyl Shklyar during the presentation.
He has added that the work on the novel has lasted for a long time, because for his story he had to “grasp” all Galician dialects. The author has also confessed that during his meetings with the readers in Galychyna he was asked to write about the UPA as he wrote about the liberation struggle in Ukraine in the 1920s in the novel “Black Raven”.
Besides, on September 16, there were an autograph-session of the UKROP member and a presentation of his other latest books – collection of children’s stories “Revenge of Baba Yaga” and translation of Mykola Gogol’s “Taras Bulba”. And on the eve of this day, the charity event “Third Age” and an evening with writer were held.
