Ukraine cannot be satisfied with the proposals made by the Russian President Vladimir Putin on a peacekeeping mission, says the head of Kyiv city organization of UKROP, chairman of “Maidan of Foreign Affairs” Fund Bohdan Yaremenko.
According to him, the main problem is that Russia does not recognize itself as a party to the conflict. Therefore, the cease-fire agreement and further steps should be then agreed between Ukraine and the so-called LNR and DNR. According to the UKROP member, politically this is a wrong step. And if it is implemented, it will have serious consequences.
For example, this will accelerate the recognition of the so-called “LNR” and “DNR”, if not as the subjects of international law, then as the parties to the conflict that may enter into agreements.
In addition, the Ukrainian-Russian border within the ORDLO, as well as all the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, will remain fully under the Russian control, – Bohdan Yaremenko emphasizes on his Facebook page.
In his opinion, the ceasefire under condition that Russia continues to control the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas will mean freezing of the conflict. At the same time, Ukraine will not be relieved from implementing the political part of the Minsk agreements.
The politician also considers that if the proposals of the Russian president are accepted, the prolongation of western sanctions against Russia will be problematic, and the occupation of the Crimea will not become a topical issue of the international negotiations.
Bohdan Yaremenko does not rule out possible weakening of the international support for Ukraine, if after the introduction of peacekeepers, our country will lack the political will to implement the political part of the Minsk agreements.
“Thus, the maximum possible benefit for Ukraine in the implementation of Putin’s scenario of introducing peacekeepers along the line of separation is the ceasefire along it at the cost of reducing likelihood to return the occupied territories of Donbas and the Crimea, as well as deterioration of the internal and foreign political situation for Ukraine, – emphasizes the politician. Briefly, this is a scenario for freezing the conflict at the cost of our country’s interests and the expansion of Russia’s capabilities.”
