The Cabinet of Ministers should consider the possibility to include drugs for multiple sclerosis in the governmental program “Available medicines”.
This is stated in the official appeal of the MPs from the “Ukrainian Association of Patriots – UKROP”, addressed to the acting Minister of Health Ulyana Suprun and Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman. The document was prepared by Taras Batenko, Vitaliy Kupriy, Iryna Konstankevych, Valentyn Didych, Oleksandr Dubinin, Oleksandr Shevchenko and Viktor Shevchenko.
“We ask you to consider the possibility to include multiple sclerosis and remedies necessary for its treatment (in particular, the drug “Rebif”), in the governmental program “Available medicines”, says the deputy’s appeal. The authors of the document have referred to the 49th article of the Constitution of Ukraine, according to which every citizen has the right to medical care, which, in its turn, is provided by state financing of the corresponding socio-economic health-sanitary and health-prevention programs. They also emphasize that the high cost of drugs and the difficult socio-economic situation in the country actually deprive the sick and their relatives of the possibility to struggle against the terrible diseases.
The representatives of UKROP have appealed to the governmental officials, demanding to provide information on current programs for treatment of multiple sclerosis for adults, the amount of financing and conditions for receiving assistance. If there are no such programs, the Ministry of Health should announce the plans for their implementation and the funds to be allocated during the year.
Reference. Multiple sclerosis is a disease affecting the immune system of a person that destroys protective covering of nerves. As a result, the nerves are damaged. And the process is irreversible. The disease is currently incurable, but timely diagnosis and use of drugs help to prevent exacerbation of the disease and alleviate symptoms.
