The draft law on the status of the occupied territories is a political game, which does not take into account impacts on foreign policy. Such an opinion was expressed on the air of ZIK TV channel by the Head of Kyiv city organization of the party “Ukrainian Association of Patriots – UKROP”, Chairman of the Board of “Maidan of Foreign Affairs” Fund Bohdan Yaremenko.

According to him, pro-government bill is intended to give more legitimacy to the Minsk agreements. However, the politician stresses that it is completely unacceptable. “The only way to give legitimacy is ratification, and the President should know about it,” says Bohdan Yaremenko. – But during ratification it will turn out that they are concluded not on behalf of Ukraine, and that is why ratification is a single procedure in a democratic country, where the procedure is above all. We should adhere to it in order to give legitimacy to the international obligations.”

In addition, the representative of UKROP believes that this bill is an attempt to please the part of people and attract the attention of voters: “Now we see that the criticism of the President and the authorities is growing because of the inability to find a way to solve this problem. Therefore, they are seeking for internal political methods so that it could be possible to create a legal system for preventing elections or delaying them.”

Speaking about the occupied territories, Bohdan Yaremenko has noted that the majority of Ukrainians have clearly decided that they were not ready to give these territories away. “They are not ready to give up their rights, they want these territories to remain a part of Ukraine as before. This is where the Ukrainian diplomacy and the President Poroshenko should find their inspiration first of all,” said the UKROP member.
