Ukraine may count on international support in settlement of the conflict in the east just after recognizing the armed aggression at the official level.
The Chairman of the UKROP political council, MP Taras Batenko said it on the air of ZIK TV channel on June 14.
“We should give an answer to ourselves about how we call the war in the east, and only then to ask for the support of the international community,” said Taras Batenko. The MP has noted that the world’s leaders form their positions on the conflict in Donbas, basing on those formulations which are used by the Ukrainian authorities. For the third consecutive year military actions in the east have been called in different ways: military conflict, undeclared war or even, according to the interpretation of Russian media, civil war. Absence of the official position allowed the Ukrainian authorities to support the Russian invaders to the bitter, by active trading and supply of electricity actually for free.
“When society put pressure on the authorities, they understood that they had to stop trading on blood, and it was made at a meeting of the National Security Council,” said Taras Batenko. According to him, together with this decision at the meeting of the National Security Council they stressed the need to adopt a bill on temporarily occupied territories, submitted by the President. The UKROP representative has added that the status of the occupied territories had to be assigned to the areas beyond Kyiv’s control at the very beginning of the armed conflict, but the authorities may come to such a decision only under pressure of the society. Despite recent statements of the NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov that the document on such status should be considered before the end of the current session of Parliament, no one among the deputies has seen it yet, noted Taras Batenko.
As it is known, the draft laws on the temporarily occupied territories have already been registered in Parliament by a number of MPs from different factions and political forces.
