Iryna Konstankevych: Government’s healthcare reform is anti-human

The healthcare reform, proposed by the Cabinet of Ministers is directed against patients, as it actually deprives a huge part of citizens of access to treatment through implementation of several paid services.

The MP from UKROP Iryna Konstankevych stated it on June, 8 in the program “Right to rule” on the air of 1+1 TV channel.

“This reform is not for the poor. Only the wealthy and middle class will be able to pay. The poor won’t pay,” said Iryna Konstankevych.

According to the MP, a bill from the so-called healthcare reform package, adopted in the first reading, actually provides manual distribution of 80 billion hryvnias from the state budget among regions and hospitals that are adventitious to power. This has already resulted in distrust of the governmental innovations in medical field, which are not supported by more than 70% of people.

And in general the Cabinet of Ministers is simply not interested in financing medical services, as now the arrears in wages to physicians in some regions comes up to 6-10 million hryvnias. One of the consequences of such an attitude to the field – at the local level there is no early detection of serious diseases, not to mention their effective treatment.

The UKROP representative has noted that after introduction of the reform district medical facilities may just be closed, thereby depriving citizens of access to the guaranteed constitutional right to free treatment. Village residents and pensioners will be worst affected by the proposed changes.

“Adopting this unconstitutional, discriminatory reform, the government wants at the same time to solve the problem of pensioners – they will just die. This terrible reform is anti-human,” said Iryna Konstankevych.

It is to be recalled, according to the UN, about 60% of Ukrainians are currently living below the poverty line.
