The so-called pension reform proposed by the Cabinet of Ministers is a set of half measures that will not solve the problems of elderly Ukrainians. The MP from UKROP Iryna Konstankevych stated it during the parliamentary hearings on “Priority of insurance principles while reforming the pension system” that were held on June 7.
“This is not a reform. The government has some vision, which is not based on the figures and in-depth analysis, but the Cabinet of Ministers does not have a consolidated vision of where we are going and what will happen next. This is the worst thing because pensioners actually demand changes,” said Iryna Konstankevych.
According to the UKROP representative, 90% of all requests she receives as an MP are related to the issues of pension benefits. At the same time, people do not believe that they will live to see fair changes and generally do not trust the government and parliament that will reform the pension system.
The authorities should implement real reform that focuses on people’s needs and not resort to half-solutions like the so-called modernization of benefits. The MP is confident that the expected increase of pensions by 200-300 hryvnias will not solve the problems of disabled Ukrainians, and urged to settle the matter of pensions for Chornobyl victims, who do not receive state-guaranteed payments.
“People do not want to live as before, but the “tops” are not able to solve their problems. I call on the government to guarantee fair pensions to those citizens who have worked for decades,” summed up Iryna Konstankevych.
