Approval of Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU by the Dutch Senate has shown failure of the Russian diplomats’ efforts aimed at depriving Ukrainians of a right to the European future. This was stated by the Chairman of the Board of Maidan of Foreign Affairs Fund, member of UKROP Bohdan Yaremenko. The diplomat has recalled that Moscow first tried to prevent the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, and then – to disrupt its ratification through its agents in the Dutch Parliament. The Kremlin has also made considerable efforts during a referendum in this country in 2015, when the majority of the population of Netherlands voted against the agreement with Ukraine.
“But as it turned out, all these efforts were in vain. The Dutch Senate has approved the agreement with Ukraine. The procedure also involves signing the document by the Dutch monarch. But this is really nothing more than a formality,” said Bohdan Yaremenko.
Soon the association agreement between Ukraine and the EU will come into effect and the parties will begin to implement it. The UKROP representative has stressed that it would not be simple for our country, because we will have to implement European standards in all spheres of life. Particular difficulties are expected in our outdated domestic industry. But the fact that the historic agreement takes effect shows that the Ukrainians learn how to achieve their goals and protect their geopolitical choice not only at the frontline.
“We complete the things that have been started, moving in a chosen direction despite all the difficulties and external pressure. And this is an evidence of the virtues of our people that may really bring hope for the future,” summed up Bohdan Yaremenko.
