The state should urgently resolve the problem of compensating funds to the municipal budgets of Volyn region for social benefits and subsidies. This was stated by the MP from UKROP Iryna Konstankevych during a press-briefing in Parliament, which was organized jointly with the MP Ihor Huz (People’s Front) on May 18. Currently, the debt of the central government to the four cities – Lutsk, Kovel, Novolynsk and Volodymyr-Volynsk – is about 482 million hryvnias.
“The big request to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman is to hear the heads of Volyn cities and communities and take all necessary measures to ensure that the complex issues of economic development at the local level will be resolved as soon as possible,” said Iryna Konstankevych.
According to the Acting Mayor of Lutsk, City Council Secretary Ihor Polishchuk, there is a catastrophic situation in the city. State has not returned 248 million hryvnias for subsidies. As a result, the debts for heat and electricity are growing, accumulating penalties and fines.
In addition, due to the absence of cost reimbursement there is no opportunity to pay taxes and social contributions, preparation for the new heating season is under threat, as well as payment of salaries to people who work in municipal sector.
“Volyn is a boundary region. If this problem is not resolved, there is a high probability that people from utility companies will dismiss and immigrate to Poland to earn money. I ask to pay attention to this situation and the seriousness of the consequences if the government at least thinks about all these consequences,” said Ihor Polishchuk.
