Prohibition of Russian social networks Odnoklassniki, VKontakte and Mail.Ru service in Ukraine does not restrict people’s right to information because these web-sites are not the media. Chairman of the Board of Maidan of Foreign Affairs Fund, UKROP member Bohdan Yaremenko has written it on his Facebook page. According to him, with introduction of sanctions against these resources the users will lose the opportunity to download pirated audio, video and photo content, that was not allowed anyway.

“None of the rights, and certainly none of the European values, are violated by this decision. Prohibited or restricted information exists in every country,” wrote Bohdan Yaremenko.

At the same time the UKROP representative has mentioned that the ban affects the company-owners more than the social networks. “It does not make the visitors to these social networks automatically criminals, but it gives the opportunity to the Ukrainian state to influence the owners and look closely to those who ignore the Russian threat,” said the diplomat.
