The MP from the “Ukrainian Patriots Association – UKROP” Iryna Konstankevych considers that the Cabinet of Ministers is not ready for pension reform in the country despite the fact that the changes are urgent and required by the International Monetary Fund. The politician said about it on the air of Nova Volyn TV channel.
According to the MP, Ukraine has a huge problem with pensions, citizens receive paltry assistance from the state, and even a great work experience does not affect the size of it. In this respect, Iryna Konstankevych has repeatedly appealed to the Ministry of Social Policy. In addition, during the reception of citizens Volyn residents complain the MP that their Chernobyl pensions are not reassessed, despite promises.
“The problem of pensions is one of the most urgent in our society. Eight million people receive scanty payments. Although there is a pension indexation, they grow only by 10%, and it is not honest to say that these are the benefits that may provide at least basic survival. Unfortunately, it is impossible to live on pension of 1200-1800 hryvnias,” says Iryna Konstankevych.
The parliamentarian said that she has had a conversation with the Minister of Social Policy Andriy Reva on pension reform.
“The Minister stresses that the joint system should remain, while accumulation system is now out of question. But we understand and the international experience shows that the joint system in current economic conditions cannot resolve the problem of pensions. Black hole of 150 billion hryvnias in budget of the Pension Fund has to be closed, but the government is not ready for pension reform.”
The MP has added that the Cabinet of Ministers should raise the issue of pension reform in May-June this year. In addition, reform is a requirement of the International Monetary Fund.
“The task of the deputies and active civil society is to insist that the information on the reform that is to be held, should be published, and it should be clearly outlined how it will be carried out, what stages it will have, what target audience it will cover, and what result we will eventually get and when,” said Iryna Konstankevych.
