PACE President Pedro Agramunt should take responsibility before the European countries for his ties with Russia that have become obvious after his visit to Syria. This was stated by the UKROP member, Chairman of the Board of Maidan of Foreign Affairs Fund Bohdan Yaremenko in the program “Right to Rule” on the air of 1+1 TV channel on April, 27.
“Mr. Agramunt will have to pay for the “Russian beet”, which he received in addition to the “Brussels sprouts”. I think this will come to this end,” said Bohdan Yaremenko.
According to the former diplomat, PACE President should be accountable for his actions, especially before the Spanish government that was discredited from the very beginning with the official statements on agreed visit to Syria. Later it turned out that Agramunt lied, as he was acting contrary to the official position of the Spanish government, who recommended him to refrain from the meeting with dictator Bashar Assad.
Bohdan Yaremenko has remarked the correct behavior of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, which avoids direct allegations of corruption addressed the head of the organization. “The Ukrainians have achieved what they wanted, but they are not visible and have nothing to do with where everything comes from,” said the expert.
Meanwhile he advised the Ukrainian parliamentarians not to focus on the role of our country in the scandal around Agramunt. Ukraine should demonstrate superiority especially on the battlefield with the aggressor. Instead of this, high-quality diplomacy should be to achieve the resignation of PACE head for his ties with Russia, but with the hands of the other countries, noted Bohdan Yaremenko.
