Lack of appropriate fight against abuse of power by the officials may lead to rapid changes in Ukraine’s political elite, because corruption undermines any achievements of the current authorities and society. This was stated by the Head of the UKROP political council, MP Taras Batenko in the program “Right to Rule” on the air of 1+1 TV channel on April, 27.

“If we do not stop corruption in Ukraine, this power can expect the same situation as in France in 2017 – a total change of elites. The situation should be immediately changed for the better,” stressed Taras Batenko.

The MP has noted that visa-free regime with the European Union that was hard won by the civil society will surely change the worldview of the Ukrainians, but it will not improve their welfare. In addition, the national production can break into international markets with difficulties, as Ukraine adheres to European standards, but still cannot apply them in the own industries, such as aviation or the military-industrial complex, due to technological backwardness. At the same time the current authorities has been stating for the third consecutive year that there is no alternative to Minsk process despite the total failure in its implementation by the Russian side. All these factors impede the development of Ukraine, and they should be eliminated as soon as possible.

However the UKROP representative has noted the success of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which has actually made possible the resignation of its chairman Pedro Agramunt because of his relationship with Russia. Ukrainian deputies have made a kind of revolution in the minds of the Europeans, showing them the power of Russian influence in PACE.

“If tomorrow Agramunt resigns – this will be a success and achievement of the representatives of our Parliament at this stage,” said Taras Batenko.
