The Verkhovna Rada and its Speaker Andriy Parubiy have to strongly resist the illegal attempts of the former Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin to return to his position through the court. This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement, MP from UKROP Vitaliy Kupriy during a speech in the Parliament’s session hall on April 5.
“I demand that Andriy Parubiy take a tough stand in order to prevent impostor Shokin from returning to his position,” said Vitaliy Kupriy. The UKROP representative has appealed to all concerned MPs calling on to take part in the hearing of the Supreme Administrative Court, which will be held on April 10, where the claim of the former Prosecutor General for his possible returning to office will be considered. In his claim Shokin refers to the so-called “piano voting” at the Verkhovna Rada while adopting decision on his dismissal. The former official says Parliament’s decision is allegedly illegal because of four cases when MPs voted not from their seats. However, even if such facts are confirmed by court, this will not have any impact on the validity of the document, as it was supported by almost 290 MPs, while the required minimum is 226 votes, said Vitaliy Kupriy.
On the other hand, the former Prosecutor General puts forward absurd demands for cancelling decision due to lacking formulation in the document, clarifying that he resigns of his own accord, and refers to being under President’s pressure. Moreover, Shokin even accuses the former US Vice President Joseph Biden of his personal illegal interference in Ukraine’s state affairs.
“I would like to remind Mr. Shokin that he was under pressure of the whole Ukrainian society. The things he pulled off could not leave anyone untouched,” said Vitaliy Kupriy. The MP has noted that Victor Shokin’s attempts to return to his position has shocked the Ukrainian society, because during his tenure as Prosecutor General he did nothing to bring to justice the killers of Heaven’s Hundred, instead of this he personally covered corruption within the Prosecutor General’s Office and failed reform of the institution.
