The Minister of Energy and Mines Ihor Nasalyk should give an account of exact sum of debt for electricity supplied by Ukraine to the occupied territories. This is stated in the collective inquiry of deputies from UKROP addressed to the official.
According to the information in the media, private and industrial consumers from ORDLO have owed more than 20 billion hryvnias to the Ukrainian energy companies. In particular, in September 2016 the Head of the state company “Ukrenergo” Vsevolod Kovalchuk stated that the debts of the occupied territories had exceeded 24 billion hryvnias. “Taking into account that Ukraine has been in war with the occupants almost for three years, it seems at least strange to continue supplying free electricity to the uncontrolled territories, threatening Ukraine’s people with rolling blackouts,” states the parliamentary inquiry.
The representatives of LLC “Luhansk energy association” have appealed to the MPs from UKROP with the request to help. According to the workers, for several years the company has been forced to supply electricity to the uncontrolled part of Luhansk region actually for free. Today, the debt amounts to 5 billion hryvnias. “There is no doubt you are aware of this situation, as the representatives of the company have repeatedly appealed to you with official letters about the situation,” they say in UKROP.
The MPs have called on the Minister to publish the list of companies that supply electricity to the uncontrolled territories, and the sum of debts owed to them. In addition, Ihor Nasalyk should give suggestions on possible ways to solve the problem.
The inquiry was signed by the MPs Taras Batenko, Oleksandr Dubinin, Valentyn Didych, Vitaliy Kupriy, Iryna Konstankevych, Oleksandr Shevchenko and Viktor Shevchenko.
