While attention of the whole Ukraine is drawn to the worsening situation in the front-line Avdiivka because of the Russian invaders’ attacks, peaceful Marhanets in Dnipropetrovsk region is suffering a humanitarian disaster, as a result of the actions of the town mayor, the representative of the Opposition Bloc Olena Zhadko. The MP and the member of the UKROP party presidium Valentyn Didych wrote it on his Facebook page.

“Building their own “people’s republic” in Marhanets, the Opposition Bloc put local residents on the verge of survival, when they have to get through winter risking to die from cold, and it is not a metaphor, but a real situation,” wrote Valentyn Didych.

According to the representative of UKROP, Marhanets suffers from cold and lack of electricity since the beginning of the heating season. The temperature in people’s homes barely reaches +2°C, and most public buildings are not heated at all because of the destruction of the entire heating system. Including children’s music and sports schools, libraries, employment office, municipal court and prosecutor’s office, said the MP.

Energy and heating collapse is a result of the actions of the Opposition Bloc representatives in the town council, who have initially cut 50 km of pipes of the centralized heating system, and eventually decided to disconnect all apartment houses and public institutions, which were heated by the boilers of the public utility company “Marhanetsteplomerezha” (Marhanets heat distribution network). Transition to autonomous electric heating was carried out without taking into consideration the electricity power that could not bear such increased loads. As a result, most of electrical substations, distribution boxes and electric wiring in the buildings broke down – and people were cut off not only from heating but also from electricity.

The residents of the mining town appeal to the authorities at all levels asking to save them from the current disaster. “The solution of this problem does not have to be discussed in Minsk. The decision to save Marhanets should be made in Kyiv. And the lives of thousands of people depend on it,” stressed Valentyn Didych.
