The introduction of e-ticketing will allow the Ukrainian cities to qualitatively improve transportation system. Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov said it, commenting on the Parliament’s adoption of the law on electronic ticket (№ 4121), which was supported by 265 deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on January, 17. The law provides introduction of an automated fare system in trams, subway, buses, minibuses, trolleybuses and so on. And it gives local authorities the necessary powers for introducing e-ticketing.
This initiative was actively promoted by Borys Filatov and acting Deputy Dnipro Mayor Jaanika Merilo. Thus, in early October last year, Dnipro Mayor appealed to the Minister of infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan asking to facilitate the introduction of e-ticketing in municipal transport. The letter of support was signed by the mayors of 17 Ukrainian cities.
According to Borys Filatov, the introduction of e-ticketing should be a revolutionary reform and an effective instrument in combating corruption. In addition, it will make public transport more comfortable. “The introduction of e-ticketing is an important part of the transport sector reform. This will allow Dnipro and other Ukrainian cities to get accurate statistics and carry out route optimization. Additional guarantees will be also granted to benefit recipients. Overall, e-ticket will be a handy tool for paying fare on public transport. There is no doubt that its introduction will be beneficial for the city. I am grateful to my colleagues, mayors who have entrusted me with such an important mission – to lobby creation of legislative framework for introducing electronic tickets at the highest level,” said Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov.
In Dnipro they will start to apply mechanisms of electronic fare this year. It is expected that there will be an opportunity to pay fare with a bank card or mobile phone. According to the law, the privileged categories of the city residents will receive e-tickets for free. The introduction of e-ticketing will increase safety on the roads, allow to record traffic flow and speed up bringing money out of the shadows.
