The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has not found the opportunity to support the UKROP’s initiative to pay a one-time financial aid to families of soldiers who were taken captive or went missing, while performing their duties in the ATO zone.
It is to be recalled, in early November eight MPs from the “Ukrainian Patriots Association – UKROP” (Taras Batenko, Iryna Konstankevych, Valentyn Didych, Oleksandr Dubinin, Viktor Shevchenko, Andriy Denysenko, Vitaliy Kupriy and Oleksandr Shevchenko) made their parliamentary inquiry to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman asking to allocate 100 thousand hryvnias to the families of soldiers, as they have been for a long time without their breadwinners and expend a lot of effort for the liberation of their sons, husbands, brothers.
“Payment of one-time financial aid of 100 000 hryvnias to the family members of soldiers, taken captive or hostage, and military internees in neutral states or missing persons, is not prescribed by current laws,” states the reply of the Ministry of Defence, signed by the Minister Stepan Poltorak.
The text of the document was published on Facebook by the chairman of UKROP in Kryvyi Rih, one of the initiators of the appeal to the government Mykola Kolesnik. According to the member of UKROP, the party will continue to strive for getting payments. “Thank you very much for your “care” for the families of those guys who are in captivity. It is now clear that people “forgotten at war” – it is literally. Saved money. But nevertheless we will get it!” wrote the chairman of UKROP in Kryvyi Rih.
The party members have also stressed that they are preparing a bill on a special status for captives. In addition, the issue of support for their families is not removed from the agenda of UKROP factions in local councils. They will initiate decision on giving such support in the regions, cities and districts. Thus, the decision to allocate 100 thousand hryvnias to the families whose breadwinners were taken captive or are considered missing, at the initiative of the “Ukrainian Patriots Association”, have been already made by Kryvyi Rih Council. Such families will receive 50 thousand hryvnias in Rivne region – an appropriate decision was submitted to the Regional Council by the representatives of UKROP.
