During the ordinary session on October, 11 Lviv Regional Council voted for an appeal to the President of Ukraine, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and the Prime Minister of Ukraine asking them not to cancel funding for educational and medical institutions from the state budget. A draft decision, initiated by UKROP, was read out during the session by the Head of the “Ukrainian Patriots Association – UKROP” in Lviv Regional Council Petro Zhukrovsky. This appeal was supported by the majority of deputies.
The text of the document states that amendments to the Budget Code, proposed by the government, provide financing from the state budget of wages for professionals, excluding salaries for technical personnel and utility charges, while heating rates are a heavy burden for the local budgets. “We will lose our rural and somewhere even district educational and medical institutions,” stresses the statement.
The deputies urged not to risk the lives of hundreds and thousands people in the regions who may be affected by an underfunding of education and medicine because of the lacking budgetary funds at the local level. Obviously, these proposals of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine may bring the entire system of education and health care, in general in Ukraine and in Lviv region in particular, to the brink of destruction.
“In order to ensure proper and full funding of general educational and health care institutions in 2017, we ask the state’s leaders to maintain the relevant provisions of the Budget Code of Ukraine in the latest version,” emphasize deputies of the Regional Council.
