On October, 6 the Mayor of Dnipro Borys Filatov handed an appeal to the Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan concerning support for the introduction of e-tickets in municipal transport. A relevant letter was signed by 11 mayors from different regions of Ukraine.

According to the Head of Dnipro City Council, in order to introduce electronic ticketing the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine should adopt two bills registered in the Parliament. These are draft laws “On amendments to some laws of Ukraine on introduction of automated fare collection system in urban passenger transport” №4121 and “On amendments to some laws of Ukraine concerning tariff setting for urban electric and motor transport” №4669 respectively.

“The sooner these bills are adopted, the sooner the life of local communities will be more comfortable, modern and convenient,” said Borys Filatov. According to him, the introduction of electronic tickets will be a very important mechanism for forming transparent fare pricing in municipal transport. In addition, innovation will properly regulate financing of preferential travel, which, under decentralization legislation, is now provided by local budgets.

Dnipro Mayor has noted that the city resident card may be also used as an electronic ticket, while the passengers will be able to pay not only for public transport, but also for other services.

The initiative on introduction of electronic tickets in Ukraine, besides Dnipro, was also supported by local communities in Vinnytsia, Lviv, Cherkasy, Lutsk, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Kamianets-Podilskyi, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zhytomyr.

The appeal concerning support for adoption of the laws necessary for the introduction of e-ticketing in public transport, will also be sent to the Chairman of Parliament Andriy Parubiy and Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman.
