Delegates of the IX Congress of the “Ukrainian Patriots Association – UKROP”, which was held on September 29 in Kyiv, adopted a new democratic Charter of the Party. It involves strengthening the role of ordinary party members, social lifts, mechanisms preventing usurpation of power and procedure of internal primaries. The authors of a new version of the party rules were basing upon mass party constitutions in Germany, France, Sweden and Belgium. During discussion of the draft document in the hall some amendments in matters of voting for the Chairman of the Party were made – its regime will be defined by the Party Congress.
“The new charter of UKROP will give the opportunity to build the party according to the principle “from the bottom up” and to strengthen the role of party members in the management of the party,” said the member of presidium of UKROP political council.
Delegates have also voted for a new procedure of electing the Chairman. From now the candidate for the respective position can be nominated by any regional organization of the party. In addition, the right to head the political force was also given to self-nominees. “The candidate for the post of Party Chairman should be a citizen of Ukraine who has attained the age of 35 years old, with higher education and experience in state, political or public work, fluent in the national language and being a member of the party,” states the interim order for electing the Chairman of UKROP.
According to the document, after being nominated the candidates will run the election campaign, offer their programs in the regions and meet with the party members. It is expected that delegates will choose the most deserving candidate by secret ballot at the Tenth Party Congress. Chairman of the Party will carry out administrative management and bear political responsibility for the work of the party.
Draft Charter of the Party was discussed in all regional organizations of UKROP. Many propositions that were made during the party discussion were included in the final document.
