High Specialized Court of Ukraine for Civil and Criminal Cases set October 12, 2016 as a date for hearing of cassation appeal against the decision of Pechersk district court and Court of Appeal of Kyiv on Olexiy Pukach, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of journalist Georgy Gongadze. The MP and the member of the inter-faction union UKROP Vitaliy Kupriy has written it on his Facebook page.
“Today I have received a summons from the High Specialized Court of Ukraine as a representative of the victim journalist Olexiy Podolsky in the case of the murder of his colleague Georgy Gongadze. The hearing is scheduled for October 12, 2016 at the address Kyiv, 4a Pylyp Orlyk Street,” wrote Vitaliy Kupriy.
According to the MP, this case is a litmus test for the Ukrainian justice, which is still unfair. “Criminals who have ordered brutal murder of Georgy Gongadze are at liberty and enjoy discretionary powers,” stressed the politician.
In Vitaliy Kupriy’s opinion, while considering Gongadze case the court had to question as witnesses ex-President Leonid Kuchma, former Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn, former Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, who, according to the MP, falsified materials of investigation, and Petro Poroshenko, who held the post of NSDC Secretary in 2005. However, this did not happen, because none of these officials is interested in the objective and impartial trial.
“The hearings in the Court of Appeal, where I was present, turned into a farce. Prosecutors behaved outrageously, the judge did not want to open hearings, and the representatives of Myroslava Gongadze, who had to defend the truth, just gave it up and took their appeal back,” said the politician.
As Vitaliy Kupriy has emphasized, if this time the court is not fair, the representatives of victims will appeal to the ECHR. “Until those who ordered this murder and those who have covered them up for over 15 years, are not punished, Ukraine will have no justice and fairness,” concluded the MP.
