During the session on July, 14 the deputies of Volyn Regional Council adopted an appeal to the Parliament, initiated by UKROP, concerning creation of a Special Interim Commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for inspecting the documents on delimitation process of Ukraine-Belarus border.

It is to be recalled, recently in the village of Vetly in Liubeshiv district there was a meeting of the Head of the Regional Council Ihor Palytsya with the local community and an interagency meeting, convened at the request of the MP and the chairman of UKROP political council Taras Batenko. During the meeting it was decided to create a special commission at the state level and another commission in the region in order to finally take in the situation around Ukraine-Belarus border.

The Head of Volyn Regional Council Ihor Palytsya has noted that demarcation problem is very difficult. “Villagers in Vetly are in a radical mood. We have promised people that we will audit all documents on delimitation and demarcation works. If the documents correspond to the facts, we should inform people. If any documents were provided without verification, we will also inform about it. As for the unnamed canal (where now the border goes through – Ed.) there were no documents, but for some reason it belongs to the Belarusian part,” said Ihor Palytsya.

Also, according to the Head of the Regional Council, the Ukrainian part has agreed construction of the reservoir near the Lake Bile by Belarus. This is the lake that is planned to be used for taking water to fill the reservoir of 669 hectares. “We will invite specialized experts who could analyze whether reservoir threatens ecosystem,” stressed Ihor Palytsya.

The Head of the Regional Council has proposed to create an Interim Control Commission of the Regional Council on protection of territorial communities of Volyn region during demarcation works on the state border between Ukraine and Belarus in Volyn region. It is headed by the deputy from UKROP Oleksandr Kurylyuk, and includes the representatives of all factions of the Regional Council.

The deputies have supported both propositions of the Head of the Regional Council.
