Dnipropetrovsk City Council has banned selling junk food in schools – this means forbiddance of high-calorie food with low nutritional value that contain harmful ingredients. This decision was supported by 47 deputies during the eleventh ordinary session of the City Council that was held on July, 13. The list of forbidden ingredients is to be developed. Justifying the need for the ban, the deputies have stressed that children do not realize the harm of one or other product, while consumption of fast food in large amounts may lead to metabolic disease and other negative consequences.

“Healthy food is a basis of child development. We should ingrain pupils the habit of taking right food,” believes Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov.

The deputies have also promised to develop a comprehensive child nutrition program in the schools of Dnipro.
