On July, 7 the State Land Cadastre Centre in Zhytomyr region canceled the decision of the former acting director Vitaliy Yasan on allocating 80 hectares of land in the village Ryzhany in Khoroshevsky district (former Volodarka-Volyn district) to the students from Lviv.

According to local activists, these land plots have been allocated for agriculture, but the real goal was mining. The lands of Khoroshevsky district are rich in precious gems – topaz, beryl and other. Local residents were afraid that in case of mining water in their wells will disappear.

“Return of the land to people owes not only to the representatives of UKROP, who were among the first to raise alarm, but also to many activists who have united to solve the problem,” said Tetyana Pashkevych, chairman of Zhytomyr regional organization of UKROP, who has fought for almost half a year for abolishment  of the decision on land allocation.

Thus, in February 2016 the deputy of the Regional Council from the “Ukrainian Patriots Association – UKROP” Oleg Pinskyi sent a deputy’s appeal to the governmental agencies with the request to resolve the conflict. And in early March, the chairman of Zhytomyr regional organization of UKROP Tetyana Pashkevych, together with the initiative group headed by the village head of Ryzhany Lydia Verbylo met with the management of State Land Cadastre Centre in Zhytomyr. As a result, in Ryzhany there was a public hearing with participation of the deputies of Khoroshevsky district council from UKROP.
