On July, 6 a meeting of the political council of the party “Ukrainian Patriots Association – UKROP” was held in Kyiv. 29 members took part in the session. Participants supported the decision to hold the ninth Party Congress in early September. It should be held in the capital of Ukraine.
“We expect about 500 delegates: 10 representatives of every regional organization, plus additional mandate for the regional cells for every 5,000 of votes received during the recent local elections,” said the chairman of the party political council Taras Batenko.
During the Congress, in particular, UKROP plans to elect its chairman and the leading party bodies, to approve new party rules that were approved today for the draft for further discussion by the political council members. They were developed by a working group that had examined the documents of the successful European political forces.
The main innovations of the draft party rules are aimed at democratization of the party, providing effective means of social mobility and procedures that will prevent usurpation of power by any member of its governing bodies. In addition, they provide liability for the party members for disregard of the basic party values and a new procedure for admitting and expelling the party members. It is also proposed to introduce internal party primaries. The representatives of the working group point out that the new party rules are aimed at increasing the role of ordinary party members and primary party cells. The draft document will be presented for discussion to all regional organizations and is to be refined basing on their suggestions that should be submitted until August, 10.
The participants of the meeting of UKROP political council have also considered the current situation in the party. “We have good prospects, faithful supporters and party members, who will give us the opportunity to get successful results in the future election campaigns. The main thing for us now is to look honestly into the eyes of people and to each other and not to promise anything we cannot do,” said the member of the political council presidium, the chairman of Volyn Regional Council Ihor Palytsya. The members of the political council have also listened to the information on the situation in the constituencies where UKROP had nominated its candidates.
“Let’s work as a team and move forward in accordance with our decisions, build a democratic party and attract idea driven people,” summed up Taras Batenko. He also said that the leaders of the party will meet with the most active members of regional organizations in order to hear the activists’ opinion on development of the party and to assess UKROP’s opportunities at the local level.
